Jarrard
J. Michael Jarrard, owner of the firm, has been engaged in the practice of law
since 1970, specializing in litigation, construction, commercial real estate
transactions and hospitality law matters.
He began his career serving as Assistant Attorney General for the State of
Missouri. In 1971, he left the Attorney General’s Office for private practice.
At Margolin and Kirwan in Kansas City, he gained experience in construction
litigation and real estate matters. He later litigated tort liability claims as
a partner in Meise, Cope and Jarrard, also in Kansas City.
Mr. Jarrard joined the Marriott Corporation Law Department in 1976 where he
served as counsel to Marriott’s Architecture and Construction Division for
twelve years. In 1978, Mr. Jarrard also became responsible for supervision and
management of all corporate litigation. At the same time, he handled a variety
of hotel acquisitions on Marriott’s behalf. In 1988, Mr. Jarrard joined
Marriott’s Architecture and Construction Division as a Product Executive,
assuming responsibility for the development of the Company’s Courtyard hotel
program. He left Marriott in 1991, returning to private practice in the
construction litigation group at Seyfarth, Shaw, Fairweather & Geraldson in
Washington, D.C.
In January 1994, Mr. Jarrard left Seyfarth, Shaw to open up his own private law
practice. Soon thereafter, in April 1994, he and Kerry Richard founded the firm
of Jarrard & Richard, specializing in the representation of hotel owners in a
broad range of legal matters including real estate transactions, construction
contracts, management agreements and miscellaneous litigation. Recently, in
July, 2001, Mr. Jarrard organized The Jarrard Law Group, LLC as the successor
firm to Jarrard & Richard.
Mr. Jarrard earned his J.D. degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas
City in 1970, where he participated in the National Moot Court Competition. He
graduated from the Duke University in 1967 with a B.A. degree in Economics. He
is admitted to practice in the federal and states courts of the District of
Columbia, Maryland and Missouri.
